Koen Cobbaert was born 1974 in Diksmuide (Flanders), Belgium. He studied at the De Kleine Academie (2009), an international
school for creative theatre, and at De Academie voor Beeldende Kunsten in Anderlecht where he studied fine arts photography (2009-2015). He currently lives and works in Molenbeek (Brussels).
Koen Cobbaert was one
of the laureates of FotoForum Brasschaat (2016) with Backdrop, a series in which he uses theatrical techniques to show daily life as if it were theater. That year he was selected by a jury at the Centrum voor Beeldexpressie and accompanied by curator Evelien Bracke to create Phantasmagoria. Phantasmagoria was shown as work in progress as part of the group show "Possible Beginnings" Drongenhofkapel in Gent (2017) and Sint-Jans Baptistkerk in Berendrecht (2018) in organisation Centrum voor Beeldexpressie and Vrijetijdscentrum de Schelde.
